It is difficult to fathom exactly the audience for which this volume was intended, consisting as it does of five articles, each essentially in a different field of interest. These include an authoritative article by J.C. Goligher and associates on Crohn's disease and its surgical treatment which is unmatched for quality but the data are certainly available in other publications. A chapter on the use of antifibrinolytic drugs in urological conditions and surgery by Dr. L. Andersson is so controversial that it might well have been offset by a balancing article. Exposition by Dr. Peter H. Lord on his procedure for hydrocele and on his dilatation treatment of hemorrhoids are of interest but again have been published elsewhere. A chapter on calcium metabolism and bone disease by Dr. D.B. Morgan is so encyclopedic that it lacks focus.
