Skin suturing has been mechanized by substituting fixation of suture ends in aluminum clasps instead of tying the suture ends together. Application of clasps and cutting of sutures are simultaneous, making this method more rapid than conventional suturing. Circumferential compression of the skin by the suture is eliminated.
