Abstract

The emphasis of this book is on the lateral wedge resection method for correcting mammary hypertrophy and ptosis. Line drawings are clear; legends are pertinent, in English and French; results are very good; but the photographs are generally poor.

The principal shortcomings of this volume are the narrow range of topics and the personal bias of the authors. Alternative procedures are insufficiently covered; references, except for those relating to anatomy, are annoyingly absent. For example, although DuFourmental and Mouly are commonly credited with the oblique method of reduction mammoplasty with rotation of a dermoglandular flap, their work is not cited. However, the authors have had considerable experience with the techniques presented, and the plastic surgeon interested in esthetic problems of the breast will garner worthwhile information.
