This two-volume atlas consisting of approximately 1,000 pages provides a brief description of indications for various orthopedic procedures followed by a step-by-step outline of operative technique accompanied by copious excellent illustrations. Since the two volumes cost nearly $90, it behooves the prospective buyer to determine what need this atlas fills. It is dedicated to residents in orthopedic surgery, and I am sure that this will be the audience interested in the atlas.
On the positive side, the book has a pleasant format and is divided into anatomical sections. Each subsection begins with a brief general description of indications for the various operative procedures, followed by a step-by-step discussion of the surgical technique. Unfortunately, eponymic designations have been so assiduously avoided that it hampers the usefulness of the book. For instance, one cannot find a description of the Bankart procedure, as such, or the Chiari procedure. Although eponyms are in general
