Abstract

What a pleasant task to study this volume! Perhaps I am sensitized by my own association with another of the world's master gynecological surgeons, Virgil Counseller, and thereby am the more keenly attuned to the love, honor, and respect shown by Mr. Howkins and Sir John Stallinworthy in the pages of Bonney's Gynecological Surgery.

Although the book is long and the print is small, the reader would well be advised to follow the text closely. Recorded therein is much of medicine, but there is, as well, much from the art, the science, the philosophy, the sharing of success and failure of a surgeon's lifetime experience. Too, there is a certain spirit of honesty shown by the protégé-authors as they clearly have introduced pertinent practice changes demanded by medical progress and personal experience.

Bonney's Gynecological Surgery is not a surgical picture book. Its illustrations, many by Bonney's hand, are clear, appropriate,
