In Reply.–The initiative to report this patient was that infection of a chylothorax had occurred. Determination of the protein and lipid content of the infected chyle was unfortunately not repeated. The gross appearance of the fluid was exactly the same as that of the uninfected fluid.
I have no quarrel with Dr Brodman's contention that the bilaterality of chylothorax is not a bad prognostic factor, but that other complications led to deaths in the reported cases. The principles of treatment outlined in our article are in agreement with those advocated by Dr Brodman in his letter. His patient represented a sixth case of bilateral chylothorax.
