As more aspects of surgical disease interface with immunology, the surgical trainee and practicing surgeon alike have a need for an informative and current review on the subject. Surgical Immunology, edited by Dr Andrew M. Munster, fulfills this need very effectively. This is a well planned and compact volume combining basic biological information with clinical correlations in a manner that is particularly directed toward the clinician. Each of the 12 chapters begins with an outlined summary and concludes with a bibliography of classic reports on the subject. Each bibliographic listing is accompanied by a sentence describing the cited article. It would have been somewhat more valuable for the reader if specific points mentioned in the text could have been cited more completely in the bibliography, but this is a defect of any book in a field that is developing and changing as rapidly as this one.
