EUROSURGERY '95, the Fifth European Congress of Surgery, was held in Barcelona, Spain, November 15-18, 1995, and was combined with the 10th Biannual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Surgeons. Eurosurgery is a successsful project that began 5 years ago with the aim of obtaining, in the words of its president, Prof Gian Masimo Gazzaniga, MD, "... a Europe without frontiers, committed to providing cultural and scientific expansion to Western countries seeking a continuous updating and exchange of information between members of the participating nations."
This international meeting brings together the efforts of the national societies of surgeons of all European countries. In a cooperating Congress, they try to show the present status of clinical and research surgery in Europe. Abstracts that are accepted at Eurosurgery are published in a special issue of the British Journal of Surgery. This year, in a similar fashion to the first Eurosurgery Congress, it was
